Rivers Edge Caravan Park
After a life changing accident in 2002, Trevor Morgan of Tailem Bend found himself retiring from his South Australian, Mid-North farm near Spalding, opting for a life on the road with plans of continually circumnavigating Australia.
Losing a leg in a shocking Auger accident, Trevor and his wife Norma, splashed out purchasing a top of the range Caravan and embarking on the adventure of their lives.
“We got as far west as Fowlers Bay, near Ceduna, before heading south to Port Lincoln – it was there, while I was relaxing by the van, that I noticed a Caravan Park for sale in Tailem Bend,” Trevor said. “We were having so much fun, I suggested to Norma that we buy a Caravan Park and within six weeks we had.”
Leaving the family’s fourth-generation farm, Wildildie, in the capable hands of their son Troy, Trevor and Norma parked their brand spanking new van at the Rivers Edge Caravan Park, Tailem Bend, where it stood idle for some time, while they began taking over ownership of the park.
“It’s been 16 years since I left the farm, we purchased the park on July 1, 2002 with four cabins, three old units and Bannon’s amenity block – which still stands to this day.”
“We bought the park from the second owner, Colin Richmond. Bannon’s Service Station started the park, opening up their old quarry, welcoming travelers as they pulled off the highway, pointing them towards the river and simply telling them to make themselves at home.”
“It wasn’t long before Alphy, my new partner, and I began to expand the quarry, I bought an excavator (which still lives on the park today) and now the park has four additional luxury villa’s and six more cabins all with river views. Alphy and I are currently painting and tidying up for The Bend Motorsport Park’s first big Super Car event.”
“The business has improved ten-fold over the years – Alphy and I have had a wonderful time and we’ve also invested in two villas and even a penthouse in Bali.”
“We’ve also recently purchased a four-bedroom retirement home on the foreshore in Kingston in the South East – it’s even got a heated pool.”
“We think it’s the right time to move on, with so much opportunity on Tailem’s door step at present and with the park moving towards becoming a Cabin Park, and not so much a Caravan Park, it should make a good investment for the next operators.”
“We’ve made the park stress free and we’ve always had an easy-going approach to running the park.’
An affordable, friendly stop off point situated on the Murray River with numerous bird-filled lagoons, travellers from Melbourne or Sydney to Adelaide have always found the Rivers Edge Caravan Park, on the Princes Highway in Tailem Bend to be in the right spot.
