In May 2018, a small scale intermodal hub was approved adjacent to the Viterra Silo’s at Monarto South.

The proposed intermodal hub will permit the transfer of cargo containers from road to rail, and vice versa.  Small in nature, this proposal may be complimented, in the future, by a stage 2 which would integrate the needs of larger companies within the region, including Big W and Thomas Foods.

This intermodal site is immediately adjacent to 88 Ferries McDonald Road.

In March 2017, SCT Logistics, also announced their plans to build an intermodal hub at Monarto, in joint venture with Australian Portable Camps.

Waiting on Development Assessment Commission review, this project has not yet received approval.  Similarly, this proposal is immediately adjacent to 88 Ferries McDonald Road.

Globe Link

In July 2018, the Liberal Government commissioned an investigation into the feasibility of moving heavy freight out and around the Adelaide metropolitan area.

The ‘Globe Link’ proposal is premised upon:

  • bypassing road freight around the Adelaide Hills; and
  • the creation of a freight airport and intermodal transfer at Monarto South.

Delivered over a 9 month study period, the findings of the Globe Link Study will be available in early 2019.
